Our democratic process is dependent on the involvement of it's citizens. Our local government will only be transparent, accountable, and honest when we demand it, and we can only do that by staying informed. Here are a few things that you can do to help support our schools and our community as a taxpaying citizen:
-Attend school board meetings. Find out about the budget and the processes involved in leading our district. Make public comment. Find the minutes and agendas here.
-Consider running for a seat on the board.
-Contact the board of trustees with your concerns or questions.
-Frustrated with the lack of transparency and accountability on the part of the district with any issue? Consider filing a Public Records Act Request to compel the district to provide certain information. See The First Amendment Coalition website for a primer on the law and template letters.
